Obituary of Alice Irene Martin

Alice Irene Martin, 93 passed away peacefully Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 12, 1927 in Greenwich, NY to the late Thomas and Grace (Goman) Martin. Alice lived a simple life; it was hard working the family dairy farm while her husband was at work. She was strong-willed, self-reliant, and extremely private. She loved her dogs Angel and Paco. Alice enjoyed gardening, religiously feeding her birds, and doing puzzles. Up until last year she still drove and last summer even enjoyed mowing her lawn. She will be missed by her close-knit family. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband of 52 years Harry A. “Pepper” Martin; siblings Dorothy, Alberta, Richard, Tommy, and Harry. Survivors include her beloved daughter Marie (Robert) Spangler of Cambridge; grand-daughter Paula (Arthur) Haytko of Bennington; great-grand-children Zachary David and Anastasia Laine Haytko; niece Joanne Bardwell. Graveside services for Alice will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorials in Alice’s name may be made to the Mohawk-Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave, Menands, NY, 12204.
