Christopher Fillipone

Obituary of Christopher E. Fillipone

Chris Fillipone passed away peacefully at home on January 26, 2021, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born on March 14, 1966 in Herkimer, NY. Chris grew up in Clifton Park, NY and attended Shenendehowa Central Schools, graduating in 1984. He worked for many years as a tractor trailer driver and warehouseman, starting his career with Grand Union Super Markets, moving on to work at Yellow Freight and finally at Freihoffer’s. Chris liked to ride his Harley and relax at home with his family and pets. Chris was an animal lover and had several rescue dogs and cats that he cared for. He liked to travel and vacation in warm spots, with favorite locations at resorts in Mexico, the coast of Texas, and Georgia to visit his sister. On one trip to Texas, he and Tammy came across a stray dog in need. They cancelled their flight home, rented a car and drove home with “Boots” who is still with us. Chris will be missed by all of his family and friends. But, anyone that knew him would understand he would not want you to be sad because you miss him, but would rather have you smile because you knew him. Chris was predeceased by his father, Louis Fillipone in 1997. Survivors include his mother, Barbara Fillipone of Clifton Park, NY; his love and partner, Tammy VanEtten of Greenwich NY; daughter, Ashley Fillipone of Brunswick NY; his brothers, Steven (Niki) Fillipone of Malta NY and Jeffrey Fillipone of Victoria, British Columbia Canada; his sister, Susan Compton of Buford, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Hospice for their wonderful care in the final weeks of Chris’s life. To the Hospice staff; Tracy, Karen, Danielle and Crystal; Thank you so much for all you did to care for and comfort him in his closing time on earth. A private service for family and close friends will be held sometime in the future in memory of Chris. Memorial contributions in memory of Chris may be made to the American Cancer Society, The Humane Society or any animal rescue mission in your area.
