Obituary of Richard T. Jones

Richard Thomas Jones, 81, a resident of Schuylerville, died Saturday June 26th, 2021, at his home following a long illness. Richard, affectionately known as “Punk” by nieces, nephews, and siblings, was born on March 17th, 1940, at Saratoga Hospital. He was the son of the late Edward B. Jones Sr. and Iola M. (Moors) Jones. He was also the grandson of the late William S. Jones and Mary Ann (Pepper) Jones of whom Jones Road in Wilton was named. Richard was raised in the town of Wilton and attended both the former Wilton District #1 School and Saratoga Springs High School. After high school, he served in the US Army and was stationed at Fort Knox, KY. Along with working at McGregor Links as a teen, his professional career included working at Tooker Sawmill and doing carpentry work with WJ Grande & Sons. Richard was born with a natural talent in art and was able to draw and paint many wonderful portraits and landscapes. He took after his dad and had a love of baking pies and other goodies. He put his baking skills to use when he worked at Dunkin Donuts on Broadway. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Everyone could always be assured of a great laugh when they were in his company. His wonderful sense of humor was well known--and this sense of humor was something that all the Jones brothers shared. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Peggy (Bernard) Jones whom he married in 1974, his children; Jason (Tabitha Ovitt) Jones, Angela (Henry) Iveson, Edward Jones, and Garry (Stephenie) Jones, he is also survived by 6 grandchildren, his two sisters; Elizabeth Ferguson and Mary Ann Jones of Wilton, as well as a large extended family of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Edward B. Jr., William G, Donald H, and twin brother Robert. H. Jones. Arrangements are under the direction and care of Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave, Schuylerville, NY, 12871. There will be no visiting hours. Private interment will be held in the South Wilton Methodist Church Cemetery.
