I first met Thurman on July 8, 1991, when he and I shared an office at Christ Church United Methodist in Glens Falls. He was hired as Minister of Visitation and I as Director of Christian Education. We bonded immediately through stories and laughter. He offered a simple wisdom about Christianity. "You see, Pam, it's about friendship. I love you. You love me," he said gesturing emphatically with his hands. For the first time I understood our Christian mission. Subsequently I went to seminary and was ordained in the United Methodist Church. Our friendship and collegiality led me to Rosemary. Such a lovely, lively, enthusiastic, wise, humble, engaging soul. Rosemary made me think I was the most important person, giving full attention to and showing delight in our conversation. Easy laughter and affirmation. Effortless friendship in the name of Jesus the Christ. It's a sadness to feel the loss and a joy to have been blessed by her friendship. Grace and peace, Rev. Pam Mikel Hayes
