Joseph Mayer

Obituary of Joseph L. Mayer

Joseph L. Mayer moved on to his next adventure Thursday, January 19, 2023.

Born April 18, 1948 in Cambridge, he was the son of George and Francis Mayer.

Joe was an adventurous kind of guy who enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, or camping together. With the love of his life Pam, they traveled to Newfoundland, did the Labrador Highway, traveled across Canada to British Columbia.  They have been to all the major National Parks and have been to every of the lower 48 but six.

He owned and operated Joe’s Auto in Schuylerville for 50 years and loved his customers.  In his later years he abandoned his fast cars for VW’s which gave him great pleasure.

Joe was a lifetime member of the Saratoga Eagles Club and the Greenwich Sons of the American Legion.

Survivors include his loving companion, Pam Phillips; her son, Scott (Patti) Phillips and their children, Ben and Hunter; his son Justin and grandson, Jayse; sisters, Jean Brooks, Sue Weatherwax, and Jackie Rogers; his brother Charles Mayer; and several nieces and nephews.

Joe requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude or the Shriners, and that would make him happy.

Pam would like to thank Hospice, nurse Anna and case worker Karen, for being so kind to Joe.  She would also like to thank his many friends who sent their love, especially Dick Murtha, Frank VanEtten, Mike Wells, Brian and Jean Huber, Don Yanchunis, and Darryl Dumas.

A celebration of Joe’s life will be held from 2-5 next Sunday, January 29, 2023 at the American Legion, Clancy St., Schuylerville, NY.
