Obituary of Edward Reed
Edward M. Reed, 88, a resident of Gates Ave., Victory Mills, passed away on June 19, 2010 after a long illness. Born January 15, 1922, he was the oldest child of Edward and Victoria (Ruff) Reed. Edward was a US Army Veteran of WWII, having served in 7 major campaigns. He enjoyed attending the annual reunions of his unit, the 40th Combat Engineers. He was a member of the Greenwich VFW, Old Saratoga Post #278 American Legion in Schuylerville, the 40th Combat Engineers National Association, and a charter member of the Saratoga National Cemetery Honor Guard Association. He was a communicant of Notre Dame-Visitation Church. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph and Thomas Reed. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Virginia (Jackson) Reed of Victory Mills; his son Randy (Debra) Reed of Goose Creek, SC; his daughter, Kerry (Bruce) Lawson of Schuylerville; his sister, Nancy Dennison of Schuylerville; 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. At his request there will be no calling hours. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:30am Thursday, June 24, 2010 at Notre Dame-Visitation Church with Rev. Martin Fisher, officiating. Burial will follow in the Saratoga National Cemetery. Memorials can be made in his memory to Notre Dame-Visitation Church.
