Obituary of Regina Jeanette Rowe

Regina Jeanette Rowe, 94, died July 30, 2010 at the Wesley Health Care Center where she has been a patient since a fall in April. She was born Regina J. Hutchens, the daughter of Leroy and Regina Hutchens, on April 3, 1916. Regina grew up in North Greenwich and graduated from Greenwich Central High School in 1933. After working for two years, she entered the nurses training program at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY and graduated as a registered nurse in 1939. Regina married Orville (Bill) Rowe of Pine Plains, NY in January 1940. During WWII, with her husband serving in Europe with the 82nd and 101st Airborne, she and her son, Allan, lived with her husband’s parents and she worked as a school nurse at Pine Plains Central School. After the War, and after the death of her father, Regina and her family returned to North Greenwich in 1946. They would continue to live in the Greenwich area for the next 45 years. A second son, Craig, was born in 1948. During the 1950s, Regina worked as an RN at Mary McCellan Hospital in Cambridge and attended evening classes at Russell Sage in Troy where she earned Bachelor’s degree in School Nurse Teaching. She taught at Greenwich Central School 1959-1961 and Hoosic Valley Central School in Schaghticoke from 1962 until her retirement in 1979. During her years in Greenwich, Regina attended the Centenary Methodist Church and was an active member in the Eastern Star. Mrs. Rowe and her husband relocated to Santee, SC in 1991 and remained there until shortly after her husband’s death in 1999. She returned north and lived with her son Allan in Connecticut for a period of time. She moved to the independent living area of Woodlawn Commons in Saratoga Springs where she has resided since 2003. She is survived by son Allan and his wife Nancy, of Fairhope, AL and Quechee, Vt; son Craig of Norwalk, CT; 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, a niece, 3 nephews and their children. Funeral arrangements will be private and will be provided by Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home in Greenwich. Burial will be in the Greenwich Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations should be given to the Greenwich Rescue Squad at P.O. Box 84, Greenwich, NY 12866
