Obituary of James F. O'Malley

James F. O’Malley passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 4th 2010. Born in Cambridge, NY on January 13, 1927, he was the 7th child of 12 children born to Mark O’Malley and Gertrude (Lyons) O’Malley. James was educated in Greenwich and at the age of 17 joined the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1946. After serving his country, James returned to Greenwich. There he met and wed the love of his life Joan (Murphy) O’Malley. They made their life in Greenwich raising two daughters Maureen and Erin. He was an active member of the American Legion in Greenwich and a former member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Troy. Upon retiring from the Stevens and Thompson Paper Mill after 46 years, he worked part-time at Carmody Ford Mercury in Greenwich until the day of his death, where he loved all he worked with. Jim loved his get-togethers with his family and was well known in the community for his friendly smiles and waves as he sat on his porch. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-father whose loyalty, love and devotion was unwavering. Lovingly known as “Youngster”,he will be greatly missed by those he loved and who loved him at the Green Acres. He was looking forward to a trip to Ireland in October with his daughters. In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his wife Joan, his infant brother John O’Malley and sister Jeanette Sherin. He was also predeceased by two great-grandsons. Survivors include his daughters Maureen Buell and her husband Jeffery of Greenwich and Erin McAvoy of Queensbury; 3 grandchildren Brian Buell of Greenwich, Daniel Buell and his wife Corrina of Schuylerville and Kienan McAvoy of Queensbury, 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Sisson of Greenwich, Celia Grenquist of Granville, Rita McMurray of Glens Falls, Helen Worshiner of Florida, Margaret (Edwin) Uline of Ballston Spa, Patricia Towns of Greenwich, and Leona Miller of Florida; brothers, Mark O’Malley of Germany and Charles (Bill) O’Malley of Greenwich; and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Monday, August 9, 2010 at St. Josephs Church in Greenwich with Rev. Martin Fisher officiating. Burial will be at noon at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Friends may call from 2 to 5pm Sunday, August 8, 2010 at Flynn Brothers Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St. Greenwich.
