Sheila Gonyea

Obituary of Sheila Rose Gonyea

Sheila R. Gonyea, 69, of Schuylerville, formerly from Plattsburgh NY, passed away March 29, 2017 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. Her body is now free of its limitations that Parkinson's caused. Sheila was born December 3, 1947 in Plattsburgh NY, the oldest daughter of Bernard and Lena Gonyo. She attended Plattsburgh High School and OLVA secretarial school. She spent many years working at Zayre and Ames department stores until the early 1990's when she could no longer work due to her Parkinson's. Sheila is predeceased by her parents Bernard and Lena (Durett) Gonyo, sister Kathleen Gonyo, sisters in-law Sandy Gonyo and Naomi Girard, In-laws Wilfred and Doris Gonyea, Fred Gonyea and Patricia and Michael Garceau. Sheila was brave, stubborn, a fighter and an optimist; all of which led to her ability to persevere for 35 years with Parkinson's disease. Earlier in her life, she enjoyed going camping with her family, motorcycle riding with Clarence, playing bingo and rummy, baking, and decorating cakes. She always loved a good mystery, whether it be a book when she was younger or her crime shows on TV. It was no mystery, though, how much she loved her family and how much everyone loved her. She thought she had everyone fooled about her love of going to the "Indian's" to try her luck out on the slot machines. Hergreatest joys were seeing her grandchildren and meeting her first great grandchild. Sheila is survived by her loving and ever-devoted husband Clarence R. Gonyea who retired early to care for her, daughters Stephanie (Alan) Koontz of San Antonio TX, Kathleen (James) Stone, of Schuylerville, NY, grandchildren Jessica Allstott, Leah Allstott, Conner Allstott all of San Antonio TX, Austin Stone, and Colette Stone of Schuylerville, NY, and great-grandson Calvin Samley of San Antonio, TX. Also surviving are her sister Wanda (Tony) Wuerzinger, of Chesterfield, MI, brothers Albert (Gaby Krieg) Gonyo, of Roseville, MI, Elrick Gonyo and husband Frank Hui, of Austin, TX, Bernard (Bonnie) Gonyo, Harold Girard, sister-in-law Linda Gonyo, of Plattsburgh, NY, sisters-in-law Theresa (Alan) Goodman, of Mooers, NY, Rita (Jim) Davis, and Cathy (Bob Hunt) Rock, of Plattsburgh, NY, brother-in-law Larry Gonyea and fiance Sue Tyler, of Schuyler Falls, NY, and many nieces and nephews. We are forever grateful to Brittany Stone, Cheri Wheat, and Sherri Crowd for their loving assistance with her care during the last year of her life, as well as the smiles little Hayden Stone gave her. Memorial service will be held Saturday, April 8th, 1:00-3:00 pm at Flynn Bros., inc. Funeral Home 13 Gates Avenue in Schuylerville NY 12871. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Michael J.
