Obituary of Burton A. Perkins

Burton A. Perkins, 93, a resident of 36 Timothy Way, Mechanicville, formerly of Glens Falls and Glen Lake, passed away at his residence Saturday, June 17, 2017.

Born January 12, 1924, in Greenwich, N.Y., he was the last surviving son of Harry & Maude Perkins.  He was one of 12 children of which his sister, Jackie Pfeiffer is the only survivor.

Burton worked for more than 40 years at Steven & Thompson Paper Mill in Middle Falls, N.Y., serving as President of United Paper Workers International Union for many years.

Burton proudly served in the U.S. Army from December 9, 1942 until his official discharge on February 10, 1946 at Fort Dix, N.J.  He was stationed with the 9th AAS Service Command in England, where he met and married Doris Stella Jackson.  He was trained as a Chemical Warfare Specialist and received 3 medals.

He enjoyed NASCAR, local stock car racing and the Adirondack Red Wings.  He was actively involved as Commander of the American Legion Post 278, Assistant Cub Master Pack 13 Schuylerville, and Little League coach.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Doris (Jackson) Perkins; brothers, Harry, Robert, Donald, Ralph, George, Charles, Richard, Roger; and his sisters, Mary Mosher and Evelyn Weils; and also, one granddaughter, Diana Ashley Perkins.

Survivors include two sons:  Gary (Kim Ferguson) Perkins of Ballston Spa, and Kenneth (Carolyn) Perkins of Mechanicville; two daughters, Nadine (Roy) Johnson and Cynthia Perkins, of Victory Mills; 1 sister, Jackie Pfeiffer of Greenwich; two sisters-in-law, Ramona Perkins of Greenwich and Betty Perkins of Middle Falls; grandchildren, Roy Johnson Jr., Kevin Perkins, Shannon and Stephen Perkins, Heather Gardephe, Shelby Sprague (Travis), Sarah Perkins and Matthew Perkins; and 3 great grandchildren.

 

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 9:30am at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Avenue, Schuylerville with Pastor Mike Crandall, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Greenwich Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 pmon Monday, June 19, 2017
