Obituary of Rev. John Riley
Rev. John F. Riley, 80, a retired Priest of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany, died Sunday, August 22, 2010 at St. Maryâs Hospital in Troy. Father Riley was born July 1, 1930 in Troy, NY the son of the late Aloysius and Marguerite (Lyons) Riley. He attended District #9 School in Easton part-time, St. Josephâs School in Troy and graduated from LaSalle Institute in Troy in 1948. He attended St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield, CT and our Lady of Angles Seminary in Niagara. He was ordained May 26, 1956 at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Albany by Bishop William A. Scully. His assignments included St. Josephâs, Green Island, Immaculate Conception, Corinth, St. Patrickâs, Watervliet, St. John Baptist, Valatie, St. Maryâs, Gloversville, St. Catherine of Siena, Albany, St. George, Pittstown, St. Josephâs Dolgeville, and St. Anneâs in Waterford. Father Riley retired in 2003. Father Riley was a lifetime member of Pittstown Volunteer Emergency Corps and a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include 1 brother, Lawrence A.( Phyllis) Riley of Easton; 6 nieces and nephews, Margaret Riley, Colleen Riley, Robert (Patricia) Riley, Kathleen Riley, Patricia (Daniel) McFee, James (Suzanne) Riley; 7 grand nieces and nephews, and beloved friend Fran Breen. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11am Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at St. Josephâs Church, Greenwich. The rite of committal will follow in St. Josephâs Cemetery, Greenwich. Reception of the body will be at 4pm Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at St. Josephâs Church. Friends may call from 4-7pm at the church. Memorials can be made in his memory to St. Josephâs Restoration Fund, 36 Bleeker St., Greenwich, NY 12834 or the Pittstown Volunteer Emergency Corps., Parker School Rd., Johnsonville, NY 12094.
