Obituary of Helen A. Robbins

Helen A. Robbins, 98, a longtime resident of Hathaway Rd., passed away Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Saratoga Hospital surrounded by her family. Born September 11, 1918 in the Town of Saratoga, NY she was the daughter of the late Edward and Anna Hewitt Hathaway. She was a graduate of Schuylerville High School Class of 1935 and the Eastman Business School. She married Francis O. Robbins June 1, 1937. Helen enjoyed baking, traveling, gathering local history, reading, embroidery, animals, and gardening. She was active in many organizations, serving as President of the Rosary Society at Visitation Church, member of Old Saratoga Historical Assoc., 3rd Monday Herb Club, Schuylerville Garden Club, member and past Secretary of Quaker Springs Sunshiners Seniors and the Stillwater Grange. She was a NYS National Garden Club Flower Show Judge, member of the Schuylerville Garden Club, and Red Hat Society. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Francis O. Robbins; infant daughter, Margaret; son, Francis E. Robbins; sister, Mary Middlebrook; and 2 grandchildren, Catherine and Michael Bunker. Survivors include her daughter, Anne Bunker (Michael) of Poultney, VT; 4 grandchildren, Justin and Cynthia Robbins, Heather Robbins, Kelley Robbins, and Allison Robbins Phelps; 3 great grandchildren, Madeline Eddi, Lucy Myers, and Richard Capone; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Notre Dame-Visitation Church, Pearl St., Schuylerville with Rev. Martin Fisher, officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Schuylerville. Following the services, family and friends are welcome to join in a celebration of Helen at the American Legion on Clancy St., Schuylerville. Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville.
