Shirley Young

Obituary of Shirley Patterson Young

Shirley Coonradt Patterson Young, 90, of Victory Mills, went into the arms of our Lord and Savior on December 9, 2017.

Born July 12, 1927 in Saratoga Springs, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Marion Coonradt.

Shirley attended Saratoga Springs Schools and graduated in 1946.  She worked for many years in the Admitting Office at Saratoga Hospital as switchboard operator, registration, and cashier, retiring in 1985.

She married her high school sweetheart Roy G. Patterson September 22, 1946.  She was proud of the home she and Roy and their son Howard built by hand on Ruggles Road.  She also worked for many years on the family farm “The Breezy Knoll”.  Shirley’s greatest joy was her family.  She enjoyed Country line dancing and taught lessons to many.

Shirley met her second husband, Albert P. Young at the Old Saratoga Seniors. He was the love of her life and was good to her and her family. She was his caretaker and loved him endlessly. She was a member of the Old Saratoga Seniors Group and has many friends who will miss her beautiful spirit and smile.  She was known as the sweet lady for her gentle, kind, and caring nature.  She will be forever remembered and missed by everyone who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband of 44 years, Roy G. Patterson who died in 1991; second husband, Albert P. Young who died in 2014; siblings, Howard and Richard Coonradt; and her son, Howard J. Patterson.

Survivors include her daughter, Royanne Patterson (Leon Cannon) of Schuylerville; grandson, Howard J. Patterson II (Kristie); and great grandchildren Patrick and Jessica Patterson, all of Saratoga Springs.

A funeral service will be held at 1pm Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville with Rev. Martin Fisher, officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Peters Cemetery, Saratoga Springs.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 11-1pm prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials can be made in her memory to Community Hospice, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.  Hospice is a wonderful group of people who are loving and caring and who deserve recognition.  Thank you to her nurse Caroline, her LPN and Aide Darlene, and Social Worker, Karen.  May God bless you all.
