Condolences to the entire Varney family. Uncle Dick and Aunt Dot started out the big family of 5 next door to my Gramma Towns. I always enjoyed running around on their big lawn watching football games with the Petralia boys. Dick & Doug use to love chasing me with worms which I absolutely hated. That family has dwindled down to 2 Diane and Dale but Dick certainly left a mark in passing down the family name. We each went our ways and connected at American Legion Blood Drive where Dick and wife Diane hosted the refreshment area. Rest in Peace my cousin.

I enjoyed working with Dick at the legion. When I was made commander Dick showed me the ropes. I remember a project that Dick led. A vet from Wilton who had ALS needed a ramp for his home. Dick took charge picked up the materials, pre-cut all of the parts required to build the ramp. The rest of us showed up on site and assembled the ramp under Dick's guidance. He was always stepping up in the legions time of need. Whether it was a building project or serving in the Color Guard, Dick could be depended on to help out. Dick embodied everything a true legionnaire should be. He put the needs of veterans and the community above his own. Dick, you will be missed by myself and the other members of the Legion family.
