Obituary of Mary C. Hotaling

Mary Hotaling, 93, of Easton, died on Friday, November 19, 2010 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy. She was born on November 5, 1917 in Nanticoke, PA and was the daughter of the late John and Catherine (Megates) Tarsa of Schaghticoke, NY. Mrs. Hotaling graduated from State University at Oneonta and began her teaching Career in one-room schools in the Town of Pittstown, Crandall’s Corners and Barker’s Grove. She ended her career teaching 5th grade in the Greenwich Central School District where she taught for 35 years. Mrs. Hotaling was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Church, Stillwater, NY. She was an avid card player, bingo player and enjoyed all kinds of crafts including bird carving and embroidery. She was a wonderful gardener, scrabble player, cook and baker for all of her family and friends. She was well known for keeping St. Peter’s Church adorned with fresh cut flowers from her home gardens. Survivors include her sister, Tessie Tarsa; her sisters-in-law, Jeanne Tarsa and Mary Tarsa; wonderful friend and neighbor Annabelle Bott along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Chester Hotaling, her brothers, Stanley Tarsa and Frank Tarsa and a sister Helen Gervasio. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 22, 2010, at 9 AM where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter the Apostle Church. Stillwater, NY with Rev. David Mickiewicz officiating. The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Peters Cemetery in Stillwater. Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, November 21, 2010 from 4 to 7 pm at Flynn Bros., Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main Street, Greenwich, NY. The family suggests memorials be made to the charity of one’s choice.
