Obituary of Nancy Lee Spodnick

Nancy Lee Spodnick, 73, passed away unexpectedly following a long illness on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Saratoga Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Bridgeport, CT, on September 19, 1950, to the late Kirk and Ellen (Chapman) Whiteman.

Nancy had a strong faith in her lord and savior Jesus Christ.  She was a devoted member of the Bacon Hill Church, where she served as Deacon and sang in the church chorus.  She loved to sing, probably learning from one of her favorite musicians Barry Manilow.

Nancy collected many things including anything Scooby Doo, Lighthouses, and her favorite Otters. Nancy had a fun-loving personality, and she was always there for others, when anyone was in need.  She was simply the best Mother to her three children, always loving, supporting, and listening to their needs.  She always seemed to provide a loving hug just at the right time. As a grandmother she always supported her grandchildren’s school events, and baby sat every chance she could, instilling in them the importance of family.  Her family truly was the most important piece of her life, and her “Church Gang” was family more than friends.

For many years she worked at the Schuylerville Central School, where she enjoyed enriching many kids’ lives working in the cafeteria.  In her spare time, she loved camping in Vermont, watching her beloved birds, her favorite being the Blue Birds.  She enjoyed a well-cooked fish and chips dinner, needle point, and her dog Sarah.

Nancy was truly the glue of the Spodnick family, she will be missed by so many.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother George Whiteman.

Survivors include her loving husband of 48 years Joseph Phillip Spodnick Jr. of Greenwich; daughters, Denise (Tony Rourke) Richard of Greenwich, and Janee Grippin of Scotia; son, Michael (Andrea Hall) Spodnick of Wilton; grandchildren, Nicholas (Lacey), Noah, Eli James, Samantha, Ethan, and Emily (Ethan) Aldridge; sister, Jane Fray; brothers, Kirk, and Brian; several, nieces, and nephews.

Her funeral service will be held at 10 am on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Bacon Hill Reformed Church, 560 NY-32, Schuylerville, NY, 12871 with Rev. Janet Vincent officiating.

Interment will follow at 12 pm in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville, NY, 12871.  A meal for family and friends will follow her interment at the Church.
