Obituary of John Slocum Sr.

John F. Slocum Sr., 91, a resident of County Rte. 113, died peacefully with his family by his side at Pleasant Valley Nursing Facility in Argyle. Born August 22, 1918 in Easton, he was the son of the late Lewis and Julia (Fort) Slocum. He was a lifelong resident of Easton and had operated a dairy farm most of his life. John served as a Justice of the Peace in the Town of Easton and was on the Town Board serving as Supervisor for 6 years. He was a member of Farm Bureau and the Easton Methodist Church. He remained active in the Easton community and was a great story teller. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Catherine; son John Jr., and his brother, Howard. Survivors include his 3 daughters, Donna ( David) English of Easton, JoAnn (Carl) Trinkle of Cambridge, and Karen (Ed) Levine of Virginia Beach, VA; a daughter-in-law, Betty Slocum of Greenwich; a brother, Lewis (Carol) Slocum of Mechanicville; 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1pm Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St., Greenwich with Rev. Sue Cox, officiating. Interment will follow in the Easton Rural Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday at the funeral home from 11am to 1pm prior to the service. Memorials can be made in his memory to the charity of one's choice.
