Obituary of Clayton Aldous

Clayton M. Aldous, 83, a lifelong resident of Greenwich passed away peacefully Monday, August 22, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born February 17, 1933 in Greenwich, NY, he was the son of the late Vernon and Viola Aldous. Clayton graduated from Greenwich High School in 1951 and joined the U.S. Navy serving in the Korean war on the U.S.S. Wisconsin where he served as a Corpsman for the Marines. After the Navy, he attended Hartwick College, then he married the love of his life, Janet Nash on June 30, 1956. He began his career as a Postmaster in Greenwich in 1973 where he later retired in 1988. Clayton was an avid artist and was very proud of his Canadian Cree heritage. He loved sports, especially the New York Yankees and New York Giants. He was a loyal Greenwich sports fan, so much so that he was inducted into the Greenwich Athletic Sports Hall of Fame. Above all, Clayton was devoted to his family. They always came first and he was the happiest when he was surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He overcame many health challenges with determination and grace. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Clarence (Duke) Aldous and Charles Aldous; and son-in-law, Jim Darling. Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Janet Aldous; 5 daughters, Regina (Ron) Snell of Easton, Theresa (Allen Green) Aldous of Greenwich, Jennifer (Lenny) Sherwood of Maine, Katie (Doug) Cosey of Greenwich, and Ingrid Darling of Greenwich; 12 grandchildren, Brooke (Rich) Thomas-Record, Rebecca Lambert, Bert Lambert, Brianna (Justin) Coffin, Aldous Sherwood, Lenny Sherwood, Keegan (Brady) Waite, James Perry, Greta (Matthew) Pisani, Sarah (Jake) Warren, Brittany Darling and Kaela (Shawn) O’Grady; 2 sisters, Mona Perkins and Susan (Michael) Hughes; dogs Chevy and Mo A Mass of a Christian Burial will be held at 10am Thursday, August 25, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Church, 36 Bleecker St, Greenwich, NY, 12834 with the Rev. Martin Fisher, officiating. Family and friends may call from 6-8pm on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St, Greenwich, NY, 12834. Donations in Clayton’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society or Easton-Greenwich Rescue Squad. The family would like to thank the Glens Falls Hospital for their many years of continued service, especially Dr. Peter Gray, the Greenwich First Responders and Cambridge Valley Rescue Squad for their care.
