Obituary of Donald R. Gilgallon

Donald R. Gilgallon, 79, lifelong resident of Stillwater, NY died peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at his home. Don was born in Troy, NY February 9, 1937 and was the son of the late Edward and Gertrude Drumm Gilgallon. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mary Lou (Farnan) Gilgallon; children, MaryAnn (Thomas) Sharkey of Anchorage, AK, Donna P. (James Nichol) Gilgallon, Edward T. (Meg Pitney) Gilgallon; and Louise A. (late William O. Smith Jr.) Gilgallon-Smith, all of Saratoga Springs; grandchildren, Dylan and Erin Kate Gilgallon of Saratoga Springs and Ellen M. Sharkey of Anchorage, AK; sister, Claire Ann (David) DuBois of Enfield, CT; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Norma Bradt and June VanEtten; and brothers, Richard and Patrick Gilgallon. Don graduated from Stillwater Central School in 1956 and served proudly in the US Army from 1957-1959. He was a member of the Ironworkers Local 12 in Albany, NY for over 46 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, R-ing, and traveling all 50 states and many foreign countries. He was also a member of the Adirondack Good Sam's RV Club. Don was a lifetime farmer and liked animals, especially horses. He enjoyed working with his hands and was noted for his mechanical ability, his strong work ethic, his kindness and interest in others, especially his family and friends. A funeral service will be held at 1pm Monday, February 13, 2017 at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville, NY 12871. Burial will follow at 2pm in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Friends may call on Sunday from 3-6pm at the funeral home.
