Obituary of Kathleen M. Boyce

Kathleen Mary (Mulvihill) Boyce, 80, of 28 Herkimer St., died Thursday, March 17, 2011 (St. Patrick’s Day) at Pleasant Valley Nursing Home in Argyle, NY after a long illness. She was in the company of her loving family. Born on October 22, 1930 in Victory Mills, she was the oldest daughter of James J. Mulvihill and Margaret O’Callaghan Mulvihill. She had been a lifelong area resident. Kathleen was a former employee of Schuylerville Central School where she retired after 35 years. As a young woman, she worked for several area manufacturing companies including VanRaalte’s in Saratoga Springs and United Board & Carton in Victory Mills. She was a devoted mother to her 3 children and wife to her husband. Kathleen was an accomplished, amateur artist who belonged to several local art clubs and memberships, including LARAC, Batenkill Art League, and Saratoga Arts Council. She and her sister Helene were frequent figures at art shows from the Maine Coast to Saratoga Springs. She was recognized by her peers for both her innovative and technical work, and she was the winner of several juried events. Her artwork graces the homes of her many beloved family as well as the homes of her many friends. She enjoyed traveling, especially her visit to Ireland and to New York City and Philadelphia. She was predeceased by her husband Frederick T. Boyce; her sister Helene S. Mulvihill, and brother, Daniel J. Mulvihill. Survivors include her children, Scott (Nancy) Boyce of Niverville, Helene (William) Baker and Lurana(Keith) Dennison, of Victory Mills; 2 granddaughters, Sarah and Kelsey Boyce and several nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11am Monday, March 21, 2011 at Notre Dame-Visitation Church with Rev. Martin Fisher, officiating. Spring burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 10 to 11am at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville. Memorials can be made in her memory to the Northeast Alzheimer’s Assoc. A heartfelt thank-you to all her friends, including the nurses, aides, and staff at Pleasant Valley for all the care and love in her last few years.
