Obituary of Donald L. Squires

Donald L. "Hacksaw" Squires, 63, a resident of Colebrook Rd., Gansevoort, died Saturday, October 8, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. Born May 10, 1948 in Saratoga Springs, NY he was the son of the late Earl Manual and Elsie Gibbs Squires. Mr. Squires was a former member of the General Schuyler Emergency Squad, Schuyler Hose Company, and the Green Sabres Drum and Bugle Corp. He had been employed for 38 years at Hollingsworth & Vose in Easton before his retirement in January 2010. He loved the Yankees and Bald Eagles. Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Betty Carr Squires of Gansevoort; his children, Donald (Jennifer) Squires and Cristie (Mark) Bagnoli of Clifton Park, and Jermey Squires of Gansevoort; brothers, Earl Squires of St. Petersburg, FL, Cecil Squires of Thurman, and Robert Squires of Schuylerville; sisters, Judy Bussing of St. Petersburg, FL, his twin Donna Durkee of Clarks Mills, Kathleen Mitchell of The Woodlands, TX, and Terri Squires of Schuylerville; 3 grandchildren, Larissa, Tyler, and Donald Squires Jr.; several cousins, nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1pm Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville, with Rev. Joyce deVelder, officiating. Burial will be in Gansevoort Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4-7pm at the funeral home. Memorials can be made in his memory to the C.R. Wood Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital or Community Hospice of Saratoga. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at C.R. Wood Cancer Center and Community Hospice.
