Obituary of George W. Cassier

George W. Cassier, 81, a resident of Route 32 South, died on Sunday, November 6, 2011. Born November 27, 1929 in Jamacia, Vermont, he was the son of Henry and Laura (West) Cassier. George graduated from Stillwater High School and had been a member of the National Guard for several years. He had been employed at the Watervliet Arsenal, for 50 years at the Saratoga Harness Track, and retired from the Saratoga National Historical Park. He was a long time follower of the local basketball and football teams and was a member of the Quaker Springs Fire Department. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Henry and Albert Cassier and a sister Laura Cassier. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Catherine (Hughes) Cassier, his children, James (Judy) Cassier, Dianne (Paul) Booth, and Catherine Anne (Wayne) Krambeck; also surviving are 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Flynn Bros., Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville, NY with the Rev. Virginia Cornell officiating. Burial will follow in Stillwater Union Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials in his name be made to the Quaker Springs Fire Department or to the General Schuyler Emergency Squad.
