Obituary of Harvey W.F. Mason

Harvey Wellington Frye “Moose” Mason passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, December 18, 2011. He was 80 years old. Moose was born on October 1, 1931 in Woodsville, NH, the son of Howard Francis Mason and Isabella (Frye) Mason. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1953 and received his Masters in Business Administration from Cornell University in 1958. He was also a 1977 graduate of the Harvard University Advanced Management Program. Moose served in the US Navy from 1953-1956 aboard the USS Johnny Hutchins. He worked for Hollingsworth & Vose Paper Company for twenty-eight years, retiring as Vice President of Manufacturing in 1987. He was also a member of the Adjunct Faculty at Adirondack Community College from 1988-1993. Moose married Patricia Pozzi in 1955. Moose and Pat lived in Groton, Mass. until 1969, when they moved to Greenwich, NY. He served on the School Board in Groton, MA, and also served on the Mary McClellan Hospital Board, the Planning Board in Greenwich, NY and is a former Greenwich Councilman and was a longtime active member of the Greenwich Lion’s Club. He was also on the Greenwich Cemetery Association and a Church Elder. Moose is survived by his wife of 56 years, Pat. Moose and Pat shared a lifelong love of photography and travel which they continued well into their retirement. Moose is also survived by his three children, Scott, of Eliot, ME, Susan, of Queensbury, NY and Nancy, of Tallahassee, FL; five grandchildren, Alex and Kelsey Mason, Carla and CJ Burke, and Blaise Wallace; and one great-grandchild, Brayden Walker. As was Moose’s wish, there will be no funeral. A celebration of Moose’s life will take place at the United Church of Greenwich, on Saturday, January 14 at 11:00am, with a reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall at the church. In lieu of flowers, Moose requested that donations be made to the Moose Mason Memorial for the purchase of newly planted trees for the Village of Greenwich, c/o Trustco Bank, 131 Main Street, Greenwich, NY 12834.
