Obituary of Anna Karp Flynn

Anna Karp Flynn joined her beloved Jim and numerous relatives and friends in eternal life on Thursday, January 26, 2012 following a long and incredibly courageous battle with recurrent uterine cancer. Born December 4, 1930, in Easton, she was the daughter of the late Mary (Nussell) Karp and Stephen Karp. Anna graduated from Greenwich Central School in 1948 as class valedictorian and was employed by the First National Bank of Greenwich as well as Bernie’s Restaurant of Greenwich where she met her lifelong friend and second mother, Mary Latrell, who passed away in 2003. She married James Flynn, the love of her life, on September 6, 1958 and stayed at home to raise her family until 1984 when Jim passed. Shortly following that she returned to work at Greenwich Central School until her illness forced her retirement in early 2010. Anna was known to all for her compassion, caring and love of all life, human and animal alike. She always had a house full of animals and cared for many more. She was known for her stubbornness and desire to do it her own way which she exhibited through her three cancer diagnoses, subsequent treatment and eventual passing. Anna loved her family tremendously and held them above everything else. She is survived by her son, Daniel Flynn, her daughter Deborah and son-in-law Peter Brophy, her granddaughter Jenna Brophy, her grandson Jimmy Brophy; all of Greenwich, as well as her brothers Michael (Nick) Karp and his companion Betty Dixson, Stephen Karp and his companion Linda Pelletier, Harry Karp and his wife and Ann’s very special friend Carol; all of Greenwich, and her sister Katherine White of Cambridge as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Jim; brothers Wesley and Peter Karp and a sister, Rose Fryer. The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to the staff at Pleasant Valley Infirmary, the staffs of D1, A3, the Operating Room and the Emergency Room at Saratoga Hospital and to Dr. Edward Liebers and his office staff for the excellent care provided to our Mom. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2012 from 2 to 5 PM at Flynn Bros., Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main Street, Greenwich, NY. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Monday, January 30, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Hill Street, Greenwich with Rev. Martin Fisher officiating. Spring interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Although Mom thought flowers were beautiful, her strong preference was that any donations in her memory be directed to the St. Joseph’s Church Restoration fund, 36 Bleecker Street, Greenwich, NY 12834 to help with the restoration of the Church that she loved so much.
