Obituary of Barbara Coburn

Barbara Marchaland Coburn, 87, died peacefully at her home in Pittsford, NY, March 13, 2012 surrounded by friends and family. The daughter of Louis F. and Marion P. Marchaland of Greenwich, NY, Barbara graduated from Greenwich High School, and then earned a B.A. degree in History from Earlham College. She taught History and Geography in Penfield, NY from 1957 until she retired in 1983. After she retired from teaching, she joined the AARP income tax program in Pittsford, and began another 25-year career assisting senior citizens in preparing their individual tax returns. A lifelong Quaker, she was a member of the Easton Friends Meeting. She was profoundly interested in social justice, and was a philanthropist who generously supported education, women’s issues, and medical causes around the world. Friends and family are invited to call from 11AM to 1PM Sunday March 18, 2012 with a funeral service to follow at Flynn Bros., Inc. Funeral Home 80 Main St. Greenwich, NY 12834. Interment will follow at the Easton Rural Cemetery, Easton, NY. In lieu of flowers, Barbara requested that donations in her memory be made to the Easton Friends Meeting, 1778 State Route 40 Greenwich, NY 12834.
