Obituary of Monica Walsh

Monica Joan Walsh, a resident of Cobble Rd., Cambridge, NY passed away peacefully Sunday, April 1, 2012, at home surrounded by her family after a 2 year struggle with cancer. Born April 22, 1931 at Mary McClellan Hospital she was the daughter of the late Victor and Blanche Lyons Royal. She graduated from Cambridge Central School in 1949. After graduation, Joan worked in the medical records department at Mary McClellan Hospital. She married William (Bill) Walsh on April 19, 1953 at St. Patrick’s Church in Cambridge, NY. Joan was a bookkeeper for the Town of Cambridge Supervisor for 10 years and was an Elections Inspector for the Town of Cambridge. She was a Eucharistic Minister and religious education teacher at St. Patrick’s Church and a past Grand Regent of the Court Leonard Catholic Daughters. Joan was a member of the Mary McClellan Hospital Auxiliary and very active in The Good Buy Shop at the hospital. Joan baked the best apple pie and dinner rolls in the world. Joan was predeceased by an infant daughter, Kathleen, and a sister Patricia Hamilton. Besides her husband she is survived by five sons, Terence of Portland, ME; Daniel and his wife Amy of Cambridge; Mark and his wife Roma of Saratoga; Stephen of Cambridge; Brian and his wife Kathleen of Campbell Hall, NY; one daughter, Dr. Anne Walsh of Cambridge and Albany, NY; 10 grandchildren; Christy, Brianna, Brian, Ryan, Bridget, Kelly, Colleen, Stephen, Rebecca and John; one great-granddaughter, Grace; also a sister, Mrs. Roma Balfe of Cleveland, OH. The Walsh family wishes to give thanks to Washington County Public Health and Hospice, and a special thanks to Connie, Bonnie, Lisa, Ellen and Sherrill. Family and friends are invited to call from 4-7pm Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at St. Patrick’s Church. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am Wednesday, April 4, 2012 also at St. Patrick’s Church, the Rev. James Walsh, officiating. The Rite of Committal will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Patrick’s Church, 17 South Park St., Cambridge, NY 12816. Arrangements are under the direction of Flynn Bros., Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St., Greenwich, NY.
