Obituary of James W. Harris

James W. Harris, 76, a resident of Route 32N, died Sunday, May 20, 2012 at Glens Falls Hospital. Born March 22, 1936 in Morrisonville, NY he was the son of the late Burdett V. and Elizabeth Clay Harris. Mr. Harris was a 1957 graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh. Following graduation he was employed for 5 years with the Delaware and Hudson Railroad before moving to Schuylerville. He was a Special Education Teacher for Schuylerville Central School for 31 years. He was a member and 25 year Treasurer of the Schuyler Hose Company, a member of Home Lodge #398 F&AM in Schuylerville, the Oriental Shriners and the Saratoga Shrine Club, the Schuylerville Dollars for Scholars, and the Old Saratoga Seniors. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Mary Harris Bird and brother, Thomas Harris. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Mary Jane Kavanaugh Harris of Bacon Hill; 2 daughters, Susan (Leif) Lanning of Madrid, NY and Laura (Sean) Smith of Livingston, NJ; 4 grandchildren, Abigail and Austin Lanning and Kiersten and Brayden Smith; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 10am Thursday, May 24, 2012 at the Bacon Hill Reformed Church, Route 32N, Schuylerville with Rev. Janet Vincent, officiating. Burial will follow in the Bacon Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-7pm at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville.
