Obituary of Philip Francis Donahue

Philip Francis Donahue, 86, of Greenwich, died at home with his family by his side on June 15, 2012. Born in New York, NY on May 15, 1926, he was the son of the late Philip and Louise Donahue. He was predeceased by his wife of 58-years, Eleanor, in 2008. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather Philip spent his career working for the United States Public Health Service, retiring after 32-years in 1985. He was a veteran of World War II and a recipient of the Purple Heart. Most recently, he was a volunteer at the Greenwich Free Library, serving as President of the Board of Trustees. Mr. Donahue enjoyed listening to music, sharing his lexicon of old jokes, watching mysteries, reading books on American history, completing puzzles and following his beloved New York Yankees. He was also fond of horse racing and a regular at the Saratoga Race Course. Survivors include his sons: Philip Donahue and his wife Kathy of Elizabeth City, NC, Michael Donahue and Judy Rhodes of Laurel, MD, Stephen Donahue and his wife Marie of Harwood, MD, Patrick Donahue and his wife Lisa of Greenwich and Joseph Donahue and his wife Kelly of Greenwich. He is also survived by his grandchildren: PJ, Michael, Daniel, Cameron, Tommy, Shannon, Matthew, Sheila, Sara and Margie; sixteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am Wednesday June 20, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Church, Greenwich with Rev. Rich Broderick officiating. The rite of committal will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Greenwich. Friends and family may call Tuesday, June 19, 2012 from 5 to 8 pm at Flynn Bros., Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St., Greenwich, NY.
