Obituary of Marvin C. Ferris

Marvin C. Ferris died peacefully at his home in Greenwich, New York, on June 16, 2012, surrounded by his family following a brief illness. Prior to residing in Greenwich, he was a long time resident of Croton-on-Hudson, NY. He was the owner of Bio-Tech Mills in Greenwich, and pursued a long career as a paper executive, active into his nineties. As a young man he worked on the New York Stock Exchange. During World War II he served with the 240th Coast Artillery. In New York he was a member of the Circus Saints and Sinners and Kiwanis International. He was an active member of the Greenwich Lions Club. He was born in New York City on April 1, 1917, to Clara and Samuel Fiddleman, immigrants from the area that is now Ukraine. He sang in the children’s chorus of the Metropolitan Opera. He attended the University of Virginia and studied ancient history at Columbia University. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Florence Schrage Ferris, of Greenwich, two children, Jane Ferris Richardson of New Bedford, MA, and John Samuel Ferris of Greenwich, and three grandchildren: Thomas Ferris of Glacier, WA, Jeremy Ferris of Providence, RI, and Gabriel Richardson of New Bedford, MA. He is predeceased by his grandson Marvin Cobb Richardson, and his two sisters, Joan Eggan and Julia Rosenblum. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Flynn Bros., Inc. Funeral Home 80 Main St., Greenwich, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Easton-Greenwich Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 84, Greenwich, NY 12834.
