Obituary of Thea DeHoney

Thea DeHoney, 91, passed away peacefully at home on September 6, 2012. Born in 1920 in Troy, NY, she was the daughter of Franklin and Emma Briggs and grew up in Easton. She was able to skip 2 years of school while attending Greenwich and graduate early. She graduated from Earlham College in Indiana and got her Masters at Syracuse University. She married Nesbert DeHoney in 1945. After several years in Indiana, they moved to Queensbury in 1952 and lived there for 60 years. After working in Binghamton and Indiana, Thea taught Phys Ed and English in local schools including Glens Falls, St Mary's and Queensbury. She also taught through BOCES a night class for women that included exercise, volleyball and swimming at Queensbury. She was very active with the American Red Cross for many years and taught many aquatic and lifesaving courses. Many future lifeguards and Environmental Conservation Officers were her students along the way. Thea was born a Quaker and attended meeting in Easton and Glens Falls. Thea and Nesbert were the advisors for the Quaker youth group and were chaperones on many fun trips with them. She enjoyed many activities i.e. DAR, square dancing, bridge, bird watching. Thea is survived by children Fred (Marilynn) of Lake George, Sally (William) Crain of Elizabethtown, Barry (Lesley) of Phoenix, and Beth and her friend Donald of Albany, grandchildren Derek of Lake George, Dan (Sue) of Greece, NY and great-grandson, Alex and step-granddaughter Lorie Crain (Sam) of Lake George. Predeceased by her husband Nesbert (1999), parents, brothers Frank, John and George Briggs and sister Barbara. The family wishes to express appreciation to Dr. Bassin for his support and Glen Anderson (HHHN). Donations may be made in memory of Thea DeHoney to Queensbury $’s for Scholars, POB 4083, Qby, 12804 or Easton Friends Meeting, 1778 State Route 40, Greenwich, 12834. Private services were held. Arrangements were handled by Flynn Brothers Inc., Funeral Home in Greenwich, NY.
