Obituary of Alice Wilbur Morehouse
Alice (Wilbur) Morehouse, 88, died Thursday, November 29 at Pleasant Valley from complications of Alzheimerâs disease. Born October 7, 1924 in Greenwich, she was the daughter of Harold and Irene (Stiles) Wilbur. Alice graduated from Greenwich High School as class salutatorian at fifteen, and returned for a year of post-graduate studies before working as a secretary at Stevens and Thompson Paper Company. She married Floyd (Bud) Morehouse, Jr. on September 21, 1946. They lived on the family farm on Route 40 in Greenwich and were devoted to each other for over 52 years until Budâs death on April 10, 1999. When her children were young, Alice happily stayed home as a full-time wife and mother. Later, she enjoyed working part-time for several years in the accounting department at Stevens and Thompson and seasonally for the Washington County Board of Elections. She was a faithful member of Bottskill Baptist Church for over 60 years and taught Sunday school when her children were young. She was also a member of Ashlar chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star for many years. Most of all, Alice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be remembered as a kind and loving person who put the needs of others before her own. In addition to her parents and her husband, Bud, Alice was predeceased by two granddaughters, Jill Harrington and Elaine Harrington, and her brother, Donald Wilbur. She is survived by her three children, Michael Morehouse, Susan Morehouse, and Nancy Morse and her husband Stephen, all of Greenwich; three grandchildren, Jacquelyn Schultz and her husband Lyle, Daniel Morse and his wife Rachel, and Kathryn Morse and her husband William Belcher; and four great-grandchildren, Lyle and Lane Schultz and Molly and Finnegan Morse-Belcher. Her sister, Helen Dixson, also survives her. Friends may call at Bottskill Baptist Church from 12:00 to 1:30 on Sunday, December 2. A memorial service will immediately follow at 1:30pm with Pastor Sandra Spaulding officiating. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a contribution in Aliceâs memory to Bottskill Baptist Church, P.O. Box 45, Greenwich, New York, 12834, or to a charity of oneâs choice. Aliceâs family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Country Meadow at Pleasant Valley for the loving and compassionate care which she received while she was a resident there. Arrangements are under the direction of Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St., Greenwich, NY 12834.
