Obituary of David McFee Sr.

Dateline: Greenwich David E. McFee Sr., 77, a resident of Lick Springs Rd., passed away peacefully at his home Tuesday, December 25, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Troy, NY, December 18, 1935 a son of Elnathan and Catholene (Honsinger) McFee, he was raised in Taborton and attended Averill Park Schools and joined the National Guard. David married the love of his life, Dorothy Ellis, on September 10, 1960, recently celebrating 52 years of marriage. He owned and operated Schuyler Construction Co., Inc. for more than 30 years, was president of the Middle Falls Fire Dept. for 11 years, attended Argyle Presbyterian Church and was a member of Gideon’s International. David loved his family and grandchildren, enjoyed fishing in the Atlantic Ocean, camping, gardening, golfing, going to Florida in the winter and stock car racing. He was a kind hearted person who enjoyed helping anyone no matter what the need. As a nature lover, he enjoyed caring for the wild birds, animals and his dog Sammy. But most of all he had faith in the Lord. In his own words, “I made the trip of a lifetime” December 13 – 20 to say goodbye to his Florida friends and celebrated his 77th birthday with family and friends in Florida. In addition to his parents, he was pre deceased by his sisters; Anna Mae Gazaw and Velma Dobert, a brother, Jimmy McFee and his daughter-in-law Lori McFee. Surviving is his wife Dorothy, his children; David (Robin) McFee Jr., Laurie Harrington, Stephen McFee, Daniel (Patricia) McFee and Maryanne Backus, his grandchildren; Ryan, William, Matthew, Peter, Michael, Maranda, Shana, Barb, Jeff, Patrick, Danielle, Alexander and Zachary and 6 great grandchildren. Also surviving are 2 brothers; Jeffrey McFee and Elnathan McFee, 2 sisters; Doloris Williams and Alice Reiniger, and a special nephew Richard. A funeral service will be held at 1pm Saturday, December 29 at Flynn Bros., Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville, the Rev. Stephen McLean officiating. Spring interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Schuylerville. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 11am until the time of the service on Saturday. The family suggests memorials in his name to the Argyle Presbyterian Church, The Washington County Friends of Hospice or the Gideon’s International.
