Obituary of Dora C. Schermerhorn

Dora C. Schermerhorn, 95, a resident of Fiddlers Elbow Rd., died Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at Glens Falls Hospital. Born June 25, 1917 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Nellie Porter Stimpson. Dora was an avid bowler and enjoyed bowling at the Roe’s Bowl in Greenwich. She had been employed at the Glove Shop in Schuylerville, White Feather Farm in Middle Falls, and Sulli’s Supermarket in Schuylerville for many years. She was also a caregiver for Mrs. Mabel Barlow in Thompson. She was predeceased by her husband Wilfred H. Schermerhorn in 1984; her son, Gary L. Schermerhorn of Plattsburgh in 2008; 4 brothers, Loyal, Vernon, and Charles Stimpson, and Russell Porter; her best friend Mamie (Bill) McMurray, friends, Lena and Ruth McMurray, and Bill Morse who was the best neighbor in Middle Falls. Survivors include her daughter, Kathy Schermerhorn of Greenwich; 2 sons, Ronald W. Schermerhorn of Lexington, KY and Lynn B. Schermerhorn of Oceanside, CA; 1 grandson, Bryan Schermerhorn of Winnetka, CA; 1 sister, Beulah Williams of Hudson Falls; her California friend Victor LeClaire; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:30pm Monday, January 7, 2013 at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St., Greenwich with Rev. Keith Mann, officiating. Spring burial will be in Greenwich Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 1:30-2:30pm at the funeral home prior to the service.
