Obituary of Joan R. Ciccarone

Joan R. Ciccarone,76, a resident of Cossayuna passed away unexpectedly in her sleep Monday, June 25, 2018 at her home with her husband and fur babies by her side.

She was born November 19, 1941 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Lester and Lillian Shapiro Hertzog.

Joan graduated from the Kings County Hospital and School of Nursing in 1967 and worked thru 1969.  She married the love of her life Patsy Ciccarone, they were happily married for 49 years.  After she was married, she began working for the Richmond Memorial Hospital in Southshore Staten Island, where they lived in Tottenville until 1980.  Joan and Pat eventually moved to the house on the hill in Cossayuna in 1980 where she began to work for Mary Mclellan Hospital in Cambridge.  Her favorite job was working at the St. Peters Hospital ICU Alcohol Detox Unit from 1991-1994.  After a near fatal car accident she was forced to take a desk job at the NYS office of Medicaid prior approval.  Following her accident, she was baptized by the Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint Church where she attended the local church in Greenwich.  She loved to garden, she was involved in animal protection rescue saving over 60 fur babies throughout her life, was active in environmental defense, Greenwich citizens committee, 4-H and girl scouts.

Survivors include her loving husband of 49 years Patsy Ciccarone; sister Judith Korba of Albany; children Deborah (Robert) Gossman of Greenville, NY, Dr. Daniel Ciccarone and his partner Kimberly Koester of Mill Valley, CA, Dina Ciccarone of Astoria, NY and Donald (Keri) Ciccarone of Cossayuna, NY; grandchildren Leslie (Owen Lunt) Sullivan of Fort Ann, Adam (Rachel) Frisbee of Jamestown, Kaylee, Skye, Jazmine, Faith Ciccarone all of Cossayuna and Isabel Koester Ciccarone of Mill Valley, CA; great grandchildren Mackenzie Sullivan of Fort Ann, Genevieve and Graeme Frisbee of Jamestown; several cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 3:30pm Friday, June 29, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 111 Academy St, Greenwich, NY, 12834.

Family and friends may call from 1-3pm on Friday prior to the service.

Her urn will be buried at a later date with her beloved fur babies in Cossayuna.
