Peter Lofgren

Obituary of Peter A. Lofgren

Beloved Patriarch Peter Arnold Lofgren passed to the arms of the Lord on Thursday, January 31, 2019.  Peter fought a courageous battle for several weeks at Glens Falls Hospital.

Peter was born in New York City on April 11, 1940 to Carl and Ingrid (Ronn) Lofgren.

To mourn his passing, he leaves behind two sons, Steven (Carolyn) of Gansevort and Christopher (Toni) of Schuylerville; grandchildren, Christian Julius and Mya Ann Beatrice; and his former wife, Helen all of Schuylerville; his fiancé, Marilyn Hoffman of East Liverpool, OH; and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by three siblings, Julius, John and Steven, brother-in-law Norman (Marilyn) Mollen, as well as his parents.

Peter attracted many friends and was well liked.  A sharp sense of humor, his generosity, honesty, integrity and innovative nature stand as his legacy to his proud family.  He passed these traditions on to his sons and grandchildren.

Soon after graduating from East Liverpool High School Class of 1957 he returned to the New York area.  A disabled veteran, he returned from service in the US Army in 1962.  He was stationed in Germany and received the Good Conduct Medal.  He remained immensely proud of his country and all other veterans.

On April 7, 1962 he married Helen Petralia Mollen.  They resided in New York City until moving to the Schuylerville area in 1973.  He began his career as an autobody/automotive technician.  After several years he opened his own repair facility and used car lot in Long Island City, NY specializing in Volkswagens.  In 1973 he moved his family and reestablished his business upstate.  Over the years he sold thousands of cars to many repeat customers who turned into lifelong friends.  He always took great pride using his skills to repair wrecked automobiles to as new condition.  Ingeniously he designed and constructed his current house and all of his garages that are still used today.  A hard worker, he never said “can’t”, always innovative, always positive.

In 1971 through the GI Bill, he earned his private pilot license at Zahn’s Airport on Long Island.  He continued onward to complete his flight instructor rating.  He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA).  His love of flying attracted many lifelong friends with whom would fly to area airports and airstrips.  Peter owned several planes during his life.  He also began construction of a composite plane.

Late in life he found love once again with his high school sweetheart Marilyn Hoffman.  The last twelve years of his life were full of joy.  Whether it was at his home in Schuylerville or at Marilyn’s in East Liverpool, OH, they fully enjoyed their time together.  Peter was very fond of his extended family in Ohio.  He often spoke of Anita, Michael, David, Barb, Ricky, Colleen, Jeanne, Jerry and especially Ethan, Gage and Kyle with great pleasure.

During his retirement years, Peter would travel to auto auctions enjoying staying active and spending time with his sons.  For several years he would accompany Len Parker of Krystal Motors to Stateline Auto Auction each week. Peter truly enjoyed his Stateline friends and dinners with Len.

In the last few years Peter had some special friends.  Tina who always made him smile. Julio, either with projects around the house or shopping at the store, helped him endlessly. His daughter-in-law Toni, who aided him tirelessly.

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 4-7pm Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave. Ext., Schuylerville, NY.  A prayer service and remembrance of his life will begin at 7pm.
