Obituary of Roland R. Mann

Roland “Rollie” Ronald Mann, 86, of Greenwich, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 12, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family.

Roland was born on February 16, 1932, in Long Island, NY. He was the son of Roland and Milva Mann.

Roland Grew up in Farmingdale, Long Island where he graduated high school. In 1949 Roland and his family moved to Greenwich, NY. He then joined the US Army as a helicopter mechanic serving during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged he worked on the Railroad as a fireman. He also built many homes in Greenwich with his father. In later years, he operated Greenwich Family Memorials.

Rollie was a devoted husband, son, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Roland was a member and former trustee of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Greenwich. Over the years, Roland was involved in many community activities including the Elks, Masonic Lodge, board member of the Greenwich Cemetery, committee member for the Hudson River PCB cleanup, and served as the supervisor for the town of Greenwich.

His hobbies included deer hunting, cooking, woodworking and watching baseball. He was well-known in the community for being a caring and compassionate person who cherished time spent with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife Alice Mann, and his grandson, Silas R. Lewsey.

He is survived by sons, Roland (Loretta) Mann of Latham and Robert (Melissa Hirt) Mann of Troy; daughter, Penny (Jeff) Morton of Cape Cod; stepson, Jeffrey (Anita) Wilkinson of Greenwich; brother, Keith (Sharlene) Mann of Greenwich, grandsons, R.J. Mann, Curtis (Licia) Lewsey, Derek Mann, and Tristen Wilkinson; granddaughters, Krista Mann, Andrea (Don) Lilavois, Deana (Jon) Ketchum, Rachael Mann, Meagan (Mike) Connell, Kimberly (Ben) Colon, Chelsea (Brian) Briggs; great-grandchildren: Sienna, Julian, and Niko Lilavois, Blake Lewsey, Jade Winters, Joseph, Alli and Noelle Connell, Hailey Briggs, and Alexis Jacobson; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday February 16, 2019 at 10 am at Centenary United Methodist Church of Greenwich, NY, under the direction and care, of Flynn Brothers Funeral Home, 80 Main St., Greenwich, NY.  Spring burial will be held in the Greenwich Cemetery at a later date.

Calling hours will be held from 9 to 10am prior to the service at Centenary United Methodist Church.
