Obituary of Margaret Ellen Baldwin

Margaret “Ellen” Baldwin-Moberg, 79, a resident of Mountain Rd in Greenwich, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at her home following a long illness.

She was born November 30, 1939 In Pittsburgh, PA to the late Jasper and Jean (Gibson) Lawford.

Margaret was an avid environmentalist, loved birding, hiking, skiing, kayaking and anything outdoors.  She served on the board of Washington County Grasslands IBA which helps protect the Snowy Owl.  She loved all birds especially the owl and cardinal, she found great joy in finding rare birds.  Margaret and her husband Per enjoyed hopping in their RV and travelling across the country traveling from bird sanctuary to sanctuary, they were snow birds who could be found from anywhere between Florida and Texas during the winter months. 

She graduated from Clark University in Worcester, MA with a degree in Geography and worked for NYS as a Cartographer for over 33 years.  She was a Ham radio operator and enjoyed getting up bright and early every day, collecting data for Weather Net. 

She loved her children and grandchildren dearly, as a mother she would take them on trips from national park to national park across the country.  They enjoyed her canned pickles, raspberry jam and her attempt at pickled zucchini.  She was a good cook but somehow managed at one point to burn a pot of broccoli. 

Margaret’s love for the outdoors began at a young age while camping with her family, she also enjoyed knitting, spinning, quilting, and making homemade clothing. 

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Per O. Moberg; brother Thomas Lawford.

She is survived by her beloved children Lynne Baldwin and her son Ian McLeman of Hillsboro, OR, Paul Baldwin of E. Greenbush, NY; step-daughter Jenny (Daniel) Rogers and her children Derek and Dylan of Cambridge; step-son Per Christopher Moberg and his children Eric, Hailey, and Donna Moberg; nephew Thomas Lawford; niece Melinda Lawford.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 11am Saturday, March 9, 2019 at the First Congregational Church, 405 Quail St, Albany, NY, 12208 with the Rev. James Eaton officiating.

Family and friends may call from 1-3 pm on Sunday, March 10, 2010 at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St, Greenwich, NY, 12834.

In lieu of flowers donations in Margaret’s name may be made to the Washington County Grasslands IBA, P.O Box 82, Fort Edward, NY, 12828.
