Obituary of Hannah L. Larmon

Hannah L. Larmon died peacefully in her home on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the age of 85 after a long courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born August 1, 1927 in Grangerville, she was the youngest daughter of Franklin B. Larmon and Augusta R. (Trumball) Larmon. Hannah’s early years were spent on the family farm driving the tractor, getting the cows off the flats and other odd jobs connected with agriculture. She attended Greenwich Central School graduating in 1945. She later enrolled at Russell Sage College graduating in 1949 with a degree in Physical Education. She returned to her Greenwich alma mater as the physical education teacher through June of 1955. From there she went to Springfield College to obtain her Master’s Degree in Education and also later an advanced degree in Guidance Counseling. Hannah taught at Troy High School for 5 years prior to coming to Schuylerville High School. In Schuylerville she was a physical education teacher and later guidance counselor before retiring in 1983. Hannah was a strong advocate for students. Her mild but firm and fair manner won her deep admiration from those she taught, parents and fellow colleagues. Hannah was affectionately known as the “Mayor of Fort Miller” and also the John Deere Lady who was interviewed by the Post Star for her collection of over 300 treasured items. She is survived by a sister, Lucy Ellis of Bald Mountain, her long time caregiver and friend, Sharon Holmes; many nieces, nephews and an abundance of friends whose lives she touched. Hannah was predeceased by sisters, Maryette Larmon, Dorothy Larmon, Esther Sanders and brothers, Franklin, William and Sheldon Larmon. Friends may call on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 4-7pm at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville. A funeral service will be held at 1pm Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Old Saratoga Reformed Church with Rev. Joyce deVelder, officiating. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Memorials can be made in her memory to the charity of one’s choice. Hannah will be truly missed. The family would like to give a special thanks to Hannah’s 24/7 caregivers Asha Suhkhai and Kathaleen O’Shea.
