Obituary of Robert Michael Myers

Robert “Bobby” Myers, 62, was taken from this earth to be reunited with his father and family in heaven, on Sunday, June 13, 2021. He was born in Saratoga Springs, NY, on October 23, 1958 to Robert and Helen (Martis) Myers. Despite being born with Downs Syndrome, he was a kind loving soul, with a head tilting smile. He was diagnosed with Dementia 3 years ago, and it has been a long road of suffering for him and his family. Bobby loved all kinds of sports and enjoyed spending time with his nephews and great nephews, always attending their many ball games throughout the years. Even though he couldn’t read or write, he always knew the channel, time, and what events were on the TV. His favorite pro sports teams were whomever was winning that year, and he had the apparel to prove it. His uncle Brian and cousin John took over as father figures, after his father’s passing 50 years ago. They both did a wonderful job filling in. Early in life Bobby would sit on the water pump next to the firehouse swinging his Bobby toy (a shoelace tied to a round tinker toy), waiting for the boys to come play wiffleball. Whenever he heard someone dribble a basketball outside, they would let Bobby McAdoo Myers play. Later on, he would have tournaments with his cousin John and get extremely mad if Johnnie took the belt home, which would happen on occasion. Bobby was the center of attention always in his family, and he knew and loved it. He was the only non-cheerleader allowed on the school bus travelling to games, and he would recite every cheer perfectly. He loved the Green Sabre’s and all drum corps, The Three Stooges, and WWE wrestling. He loved to dance and he had the moves to prove it. He also bowled, played basketball, and ran track in the Special Olympics. He loved his family and friends deeply and they loved him just as much. No one would ever make fun of him, or else they would be met by the wrath of many. His favorite TV shows were Dark Shadows, The Addams Family, The Partridge Family, The Waltons, and Jackie Gleason. Bobby was a natural at imitating many people with distinctive laughs, Chappie Burlingham, Keith Dennison, Don Seymour and Ruth Pechette. Some of his favorite things were peanut butter pie from Lurana on his birthday, presents from cousin Cheryl in California, Mountain Dew from Aunt Cindy, going to Drum Corp with Johnnie, bringing up the gifts at church, Tom Ellis spitting and Jessie doing the worm. He called his sister Dotti, Urs and she called him Lou. He loved the girls and had a nickname for many of them, Hot Lips, Sweet Cheeks, Fat Bra, and Dolly Parton. For many of the women they would get hugged and he would cop a feel, if he could get away with it. Bobby’s favorite sayings were “Hangin in there” “It if” “Ursula, light my fire” and “you say it, you say it to my face”. He loved David Cassidy’s, “I Think I Love You”, Ann Murray and John Denver. Our lives will now be forever changed by his passing, but he will always be the sunshine on our shoulders. He was predeceased by his father, grandparents, and many close family members. He is survived by his mother, Helen (Martis) Myers; sister, Dotti Myers; several nephews, great nephews, close family and friends. A funeral mass will be held at 10am on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Notre Dame-Visitation Church, 18 Pearl St, Schuylerville, with Rev. Martin Fisher officiating. Limited seating and facemasks for unvaccinated people will be required. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 1-3 and 5 to 7pm on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave, Schuylerville, NY, 12871. Social distancing and facemasks for unvaccinated people will be required. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bobby’s name may be made to the David Nevins Fire Co. PO Box 78, Victory Mills, NY, 12884 or the Wilton Emergency Squad, Inc. Station 2, NY-29, Saratoga Springs, NY, 12866. The family would like to thank Saratoga Community Hospice, Visiting Nurses for Bobby, and the Victory Mills Fire Co. Special thank you’s go to Stacey Weils and Samantha and Fern Estrada, for their kindness and care of Bobby for the past 2 years.
