Obituary of Joan Nolan - Monroe

Joan Nolan Monroe, 79, a resident of Greenwich, passed away peacefully at her daughter, Leslea, and favorite son-in-law, Glenn Davis’s home on October 8th, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 27, 1942, in Cambridge, NY to the late John and Rita (Burch) Duane. She dated and then married Francis Nolan in 1960. As a couple they enjoyed lake dances where they owned the dance floor. She graduated from Greenwich Central School in 1960 and ACC with honors in 1988 at the age of 46. She worked at many different places but she retired after working 15 years at Wilton Developmental which transitioned into Community Group Home on Meadowbrook Dr. in Queensbury. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her world, and she was theirs. She was their biggest fan and never missed a sporting event or other school function. Joan took care of not only her children but opened her door to many people of all ages in need of love. She was always the life of the party. You could always catch her on the dance floor doing her twirl. Some of her favorite things were black velvet and ginger, white russians, boxed wine and the occasional smoke a little smoke. In the last 10 years she loved socializing more at local establishments, chatting or debating with anyone who would listen. She loved vacations at any beach with her family, her trip to Ireland and who can forget the Duane sisters’ outings! In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her 1st husband Francis Nolan, daughter Brenda Nolan, brother-in-laws Dean Brophy, William (Sonny) Nolan, Samuel Nolan, Charlie Nolan, Gary (Catfish) Nolan, and sister-in-laws Hazel Karp, Rose McCann, Mary Skellie, Evelyn O’Donnell, and Katherine Martindale. She is survived by her loving children; Michelle (Robert Henderson) Nolan, Leslea (Glenn) Davis and Corey Nolan; grandchildren, Megan (Brian), Ryan (Susan), Bianka (Ryan), Brittanie (John), Connor, Julie, and Mia; great-grandchildren, Trey, Beckett, Kenley, Penelope, Harper, and Amelia; siblings Sharon (Art) Erbe, Margaret (Jerry) Cronin and Kathleen Brophy; Brother-in-law George Nolan; former husband and special friend Ken Monroe. A special thank you to the Hospice nurses Jen and Tracey and Social Worker Karen. The family would personally like to thank Lisa Boyce for her kindness, support and love during this time. In the words of Elvis Presley “When the darkness appears and the night draws near and the day is past and gone. At the river I stand, guide my feet, hold my hand. Take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home. Twirl on Joana! A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday October 16th at the St. Joseph’s Church, Hill St, Greenwich, NY, 12834, with Father Marty officiating.
