Obituary of John J. Andrew

John Joseph “Jobbie” Andrew. 71, a resident Bulson Road, passed away at his home on Friday, August 23, 2013. Born August 10, 1942 in Valley Falls, he was the son of John C. Andrew and Louisa M. (Sanzone) Andrew. He grew up in Valley Falls and spent summers as a child in Newcomb. On May 5, 1962 he married the love of his life, Helen F. Harrington. He retired from Hollingsworth and Vose Paper Company after 33 years. He was a lifetime member of the Middle Falls Fire Dept., and Lodge # 2223 BPOE in Greenwich. He loved all aspects of serving his community through the fire department, including the numerous banquets, weddings, and charities. As much as he gave to the fire department, Jobbie gave more to scouting. He served on the scout board then moved to assistant scoutmaster and on to scoutmaster for Troop 27 for over 40 years. Some of the proudest accomplishments included approximately 30 Eagle scouts, three being his son Dick, and two grandsons, Jo and Jason. Jobbie was a member of the Order of the Arrow. He received numerous awards through many organizations including Boy Scouts, The Greenwich Elks, Free and Accepted Masons, and the Middle Falls Fire Department. Jobbie and others were in on the building of the current Middle Falls Fire Station. Past times truly enjoyed by Jobbie were fishing, hunting, squirrel and raccoon watching. Eagles, jamborees in many states, Newcomb Lake, camping, and everything related to being outdoors. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a grandson, John Scott of Granville. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Helen F. Andrew (Harrington) of Greenwich; 2 sons, John and his wife Ruth of Greenwich and Richard and wife Elana of Salem; a daughter, Louise and husband Tony Periard of Granville; sisters, Sandy Dyer of Pa. and Theresa Andrew of Valley Falls; brother, Richard and wife Marie of Valley Falls; grandchildren, Jason Ashcroft of North Carolina, Joseph Andrew of Salem, Kora Lee Andrew of Salem, Monica Colegrove of Greenwich, John Colegrove of Granville; nieces, Abigail Day of Johnsonville and Carrie Dyer of Pa., and nephews, Joe Dyer and Shawn Dyer of Pa. A funeral mass will be offered at 1 pm Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Church in Greenwich with the Rev. Martin Fisher, pastor officiating. Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 pm at Flynn Bros., Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main Street, Greenwich, NY.
