Obituary of Elinor R. Odell

Elinor Jean Ritchie Odell, 86, a resident of Carl Ave., died at home peacefully on Friday, September 20, 2013 surrounded by her daughters. She was born June 16, 1927 in North Salem, NY, the daughter of Samaola Penny Ritchie and Edwin J. Ritchie Sr. Elinor grew up on a farm in Pawling, NY. She married Bradford Odell of Katonah, NY on April 18, 1953 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Brewster, NY. They lived in Katonah for many years, spending summers in Shushan, NY where the family enjoyed fly fishing in the Batten Kill, and later moved to Greenwich in 1984. She was a member of Enoch Crosby Chapter, NSDAR, in Carmel, NY for over 60 years, was a member and Chaplin of the Greenwich Elks Auxiliary, a member of the Greenwich Elks Lodge #2223, and was Elk Auxiliary 2012 Member of the Year. She was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Greenwich and held many offices in the Women of St. Paul's, including Chairing their Annual Bazaar for many years, was member of the Vestry for 13 years and also served as Treasurer of the church. She volunteered at the Greenwich Clothing Walk-In and Operation Santa. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Bradford Odell and brother, Edwin J. Ritchie Jr. Survivors include her daughters, Jeanne and Michael Graves of Greenwich, Susan and John Miller of Galloway, NJ, and Martha and Kenneth Cornog of Greenwich; grandchildren, Michael and Heather Graves of Greenwich, Jason and Tara Graves of Wilton, NY, Bradford Odell of Ventnor, NJ, Shannon and Dustin Miller of Galloway, NJ and Katelyn, Kenneth, and Dylan Cornog of Greenwich; 2 great grandchildren, Avery Graves of Greenwich and Nathan Graves of Wilton; and her Greenwich family, Tom, Rulyn, Haley and Collin Graves. A funeral service will be held at 9am Saturday, September 28, 2013 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Greenwich with Rev. Chip Strickland, officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwich Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 6-9pm at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St., Greenwich. Memorials can be made in her memory to St. Paul's Church Memorial Fund.
