Obituary of J. Miriam Armstrong Doner

J. Miriam G. Armstrong Doner, 94, a former resident of Greenwich, died Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Pleasant Valley Nursing Home in Argyle. Born October 16, 1918 in Albany, NY she was the daughter of Milo and Edna Foster Galbraith. Mrs. Doner was a graduate of Salem Washington Academy and the Mary McClellan Hospital School of Nursing. She worked at Pleasant Valley Nursing Home in Argyle for many years, retiring in 1981. She was a member of the Women’s Society at the Centenary United Methodist Church, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary #7291, and the Greenwich Senior Citizens. She enjoyed her church, birds, traveling, gardening and crocheting. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by 2 husbands, Thomas Armstrong and George F. Doner, Sr.; 1 daughter, Martha Jane Armstrong; 2 sons, Edward Armstrong and James Doner; and 1 brother, John Galbraith. Survivors include her daughter Betty Jo (John) Farndell of Greenwich; son, George F. Doner Jr. of Vermont; sister, Doris Elo of Queensbury; 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 6pm Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St., Greenwich with Rev. Martin Fisher, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Evergreen Cemetery, Salem. Friends may call from 4-6pm Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials can be made in her memory to Centenary United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
