Obituary of Willard A. Bruce
Willard "Bill" A. Bruce, 82, a resident of Quaker Springs, passed away after a long illness on Friday, March 10, 2023 at The Pines in Glens Falls.
Born December 8, 1940 in Glens Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Hugh and Rose "Bigga" Ives Bruce.
Bill served six years in the US Army. He is a former chief and member of Victory Mills Fire Department and was Captain of General Schuyler Emergency Squad for 10 years, becoming a lifetime member. He retired from Finch Pruyn in Glens Falls after many years. After retirement, he worked at Byron's Market in Schuylerville.
Bill loved animals - Midnite, his long-time companion was his "baby" and Lucy was Papa's "girl". He enjoyed festivals like the Scottish Games, fireworks, parades, fishing and family gatherings.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Forrest, Keith, Robert, and Thomas Bruce; and sister Marylou Brunelle.
Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Cynthia D. Bruce of Quaker Springs; son, Scott (Susan) Bruce of FL, Grandsons Michael Skot and Jason Willard; stepchildren, Laurie Lewis, Ruthie (Jon) Penman, Eddie (Elizabeth) Burns, Heather, Kristen, and Richard Varney; several additional grandchildren and a great grand daughter; brothers, Tim, Richard, John, and Hugh Bruce Jr.; sisters, Betty Bruce, Pat (Paul) Henry, Dale Baldwin, Rose (Donald) Ormsby, and Grace Wilson; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express many thanks to the dedicated staff at The Pines in Glens Falls, NY.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 21 at 11am at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
A celebration of his life will follow at the American Legion Hall, Clancy St., Schuylerville for friends and family.
