Obituary of Florence Amelia Vogt

Florence Amelia Vogt, 95, former resident of Easton and previously of Smithtown, Long Island, NY, died Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, VT where she had resided for the past 2 years. She also resided in Mauldin, SC for two years. She was a loving mother and grandmother who selflessly helped take care of her grandchildren and always enjoyed their company. Born May 21, 1918 in New York City, NY she was the daughter of the late John Kotzky and Barbara Lillie Jaremchuk Kotzky. For a time as a child, they lived in Far Rockaway, NY. In 1937, Florence graduated from Newtown High School in Queens. She worked in the accounting offices for Montgomery Ward in New York. After studying accounting she was moved into their payroll department. During WWII she sold War Bonds at Penn Station in NYC. She married Charles Henry Vogt Jr. in 1945 when he returned from the war. Beginning in the 1960’s, she managed the fine jewelry department at Klein Department Store in Commack, NY then at the McCrory and TSS department stores. When those stores closed during the recession, she started a craft business in the 1980’s, making and designing fabric based home decor. The whimsical country style items included hot air balloons, elves, mice, cats, sock monkeys, dolls and broom covers which she sold mainly at craft shows. Most of all, Florence enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved family events and traditions. She loved to cook making special dishes at holidays, such as pierogies. She enjoyed going with her family on many day outings, vacation road trips, cruises and an occasional camping trip. She loved seeing new places, learning about their culture and history and natural features. She enjoyed traveling throughout her life with her husband, children and grandchildren. She especially loved the ocean, taking every opportunity to go to the beach with her family. Florence also loved horseback riding, swimming, fishing, boating, reading and sewing. She stayed in touch with her lifelong friends through letter writing. With her strong sense of family, she took the time to be with her daughters and their families while her grandchildren were growing up. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Charles Henry Vogt Jr. and her brother Albert Kotzky and his wife Mary. Survivors include her 2 daughters, Linda Joyce (Vogt) Borden and her husband James W. Borden, and Judith Karen (Vogt) McInnis and her husband Michael R. McInnis of Mauldin, SC; 4 grandchildren, Christopher A. Borden, Patrick J. Borden, Michelle E. McInnis and Jeffrey T. McInnis; nephew, William Kotzky and his wife Kathleen. A memorial service will be held at 1pm Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St., Greenwich, NY. Interment will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Friends may call from 12-1pm Wednesday, prior to the service at 1pm.
