Obituary of William Ketz

William Ketz, 90, a resident of Furlani Dr. and former resident of Cohoes, passed away Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Albany. Born August 11, 1923 in Cohoes, he was the son of John and Anastasia Ketz. A lifelong resident of Cohoes, William had been employed by Ford Motor Co. for over 35 years. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII serving in the Pacific Theater aboard the destroyer USS Halsey Powell. In 1945 he was a survivor of the Kamikaze attack. He was the recipient of the American Theater Medal, Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, Philippines Liberation Medal, and the Letter of Commendation. He witnessed the surrender of the Japanese at Tokyo Harbor. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother and sisters. Survivors include his niece and caregiver for the past 7 years, Anna Mae Furlani of Schuylerville, along with many other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Friends may call from 2 to 4 pm Wednesday December 11, 2013 at Flynn Bros., Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville, NY. A funeral service will be held at 4 pm with Rev. Martin Fisher, officiating. Committal services with military honors will be held at 1:30 pm Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. The family suggests memorials in his name be made to The General Schuyler Emergency Squad, PO Box 111, Schuylerville, NY 12871 or to Notre Dame-Visitation Church, Pearl Street, Schuylerville, NY 12871.
