Obituary of Bruce E Gates

Bruce Gates, 65, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2023, at his home following a brief battle with cancer.

He was born in Cambridge, NY, on March 3, 1958, to the late David Thomas and Beatrice Elizabeth (Weber) Gates.

Bruce was a simple man; some would say a mountain man.  He absolutely loved hunting, fishing, and trapping.  Many good memories and lessons were taught, while outdoors with his two sons.  In his youth he could be somewhat of a rebel, but he was always happy, fun-loving, humorous, and the life of the party. He worked for many years as a CNC Machinist, at Cambridge Valley Machinery.  

Bruce enjoyed playing the guitar and the harmonica.  He had a gentle side and was great with animals, rehabbing many birds throughout his life. He was a diehard Yankees fan.  Bruce loved his family more than anything, he was the best father, grandfather, and husband to his late wife Margaret Gates.  

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his son, Todd Ketcham; sister, Sheila Gates; brother, David T. Gates Jr.; and best friend Al Carey.

He is survived by his children Tracy Ketcham, Bruce Gates, Mara (Justin Farrar) Gates; grandchildren, Evelynn Gates, Justin Farrar, and Skylar Young; sister, Vanessa Gates; brothers, Chuck (Carmen) Gates and Frank (Barb) Gates; several nieces and nephews.

 There will be no prior calling hours.

 A celebration of Bruce’s life will be held at 2 pm at the family home, 54 Salem St, Greenwich, NY, 12834 on Sunday, July 30, 2023.
