Obituary of Richard T. Duell Jr.

Richard T. Duell Jr., 74, a resident of Schuylerville, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at his home. 

He was born on  August 27, 1949, in Niskayuna, NY, to the late Richard T. Sr. and Myrtle (Walker) Duell.

Richard grew up in Duanesburg, NY, with his parents and sister.  He served his country proudly in the United States Navy, during the Vietnam Era.  He was stationed on an escort ship which guarded the seas during the Cuban Missile Crisis.  Following his time in the service, he was a self-taught body shop mechanic, owning and operating a body shop in Arbor Hill.  He excelled in his field as a metal flake painter.  He also worked for many years at a towing company, moving and setting modular homes.  Most recently he was employed as a manager at Lowes in Wilton.

Richard enjoyed riding his V-Star motorcycle, listening to music, mowing his lawn, and puttering around his property.  He had a deep love for his soul mate Kathie, and his children and grandchildren as well as his beloved dog Samantha.  Richard could be shy when you first met him but once you got to know him, he was hilarious, charming, and fair.  He was knowledgeable and always seemed to figure things out. 

He was proud of the home he remodeled, which was an old bomb shelter of a home, that became his home with the meticulous work he did to it. 

He is survived by his significant other Kathleen “Kathie” Lynch; 4 daughters, Amy, Tonya, Tara, and Amanda Duell; 2 stepdaughters, Heather, and Nicole; sister, Sharon Eastman; special friends, Marty, Jim, Dawn, and Georgia; good neighbors, Tom and Rose & Gary and Leah; beloved dog and best friend Samantha.

Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at the Gerald BH Solomon, Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville, NY, 12871.
