Obituary of William Soltren Jr.

William Soltren Jr., 54, avid baseball fanatic, husband, father, brother, and friend joined the comfort of Christ’s arms on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on July 23, 1969, in Manhattan, NY, to the late William Sr. and Norma (Santiago) Soltren.

William was an avid baseball fan his entire life, he played shortstop in the NY Yankees minor league system, coached little league, and played softball for many years at the Greenwich Elks Club.  He loved both of America’s teams, the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys.

William could turn any frown upside down; he truly was the life and goofball of the party.  Making others laugh was one of his favorite things to do.  He was proud of his Puerto Rican culture and the wonderful food and music that went along with it.  Anytime he was washing dishes the neighborhood would know it by the salsa music playing.

William served his country proudly in the United States Navy.  He worked for many years at H&V Papermill in Greenwich as an electrician.  Over the past 14 years he cherished the love of Kathleen (Calkins) Soltren.  Together they enjoyed garage saling, trips to Lake George, visiting with friends, movie nights, and time spent together.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his grandparents, Carmen, and Jose Rivera; his brother-in-law, Marcolo Bethea and uncle, Jr. Rivera.

He is survived by the love of his life, his beloved wife, Kathleen (Calkins) Soltren of Greenwich; sister, Valerie Bethea “His Monkey”; children, William M. (Carol) Soltren and Kassidi (Erin) Soltren; stepson, Ryan (Nikki) Toto, grandchildren, MacKenzie and Logan Soltren, Kyleigh, Carson, Preston and his baby girl Destiny; father and mother in law, Roger and Terry Calkins; step-mother, Jo Seaver; nephew, Aidan Bethea; niece, Aliera Bethea; aunt, Evelyn Rivera; special cousins, Jennifer and Eddie Rodriguez; extended family and friends whom he loved.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at Flynn Bros, Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St, Greenwich, NY, 12834.  Family and friends may call from 1 to 2 pm prior to his service at the funeral home.
