I'm so sorry to read of Shirley's passing but what a long, full life she lived. She welcomed my family with open arms to St. Paul's Episcopal Church in the 1980s and never forgot my name or to ask for family members when I'd return to Greenwich and run into her after my having moved to Boston for many years. Shirley was a friendly, bright, caring Christian person. May she rest in peace. My sincere sympathy to her family.

Steve and Jean,
I’m so sorry for your loss. I delivered the Post Star to your Mom for years. She always left me a tip! She was always so sweet when I’d see her at the grocery store. RIP Shirley.

Steve and Jeanie and family,
Our deepest sympathy to your family. I thought the world of your Mom, and she was sincerely an iconic person in Greenwich. The last time a saw her, she was as feisty as ever, and such an intelligent lady. She will truly be missed by many. God Bless!!

So very sorry to hear of Shirley’s passing. Great gal. I shoveled snow for her for several years. The years, and her loss of friends, most notably Frances Billings had taken their toll on her, but she had a spark that never seemed to die. Always a smile and a kind word when we met. My condolences to her family.

To Shirley’s family,
I am very sorry for your loss. Your Mom was always so very sweet to me. Years ago my husband and I both worked for the Grand Union grocery store. Your Mom and Dad used to come in often. There was a particular day when your Mom came in and was going on about my husband. She didn’t realize we were married. When I told her that he was my husband she said, “He is the most handsome “bald” man I’ve ever seen.” Mind you we were only in our 20’s. I never forgot that! Shirley will forever be in my thoughts. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Shirley Friday was our first friend when we moved to Greenwich about 50 years ago. She was fun and funny, gave me good advice on problems, was a loyal church companion. We got together for many lunches and just had a great friendship. She was an inspiring, active person.

Steve,Jean+Family,
My Heartfelt Sympathy To You.Your Mom; (Shirley). I Can Hear Her Say; Just Call Me Shirley :-))) She Was A Great Neighbor. Her And I Stayed In Touch Somehat Regular Over The Years.I Used To Take Her Vegetables From Time To Time. She Was So Appreciative. I Had Called Her Once Several Years Ago;I Was Canning+ Was Looking For Pint Jars. She Said She Didn;t Have Any. The Next Afternoon She Showed Up In My Driveway With A 12Pack Of Pint Jars.I Was Touched By Her Kindness!! I Believe She Went Somewhere Other Than Greenwich To Get Them.I Had Tried Everywhere Locally. That Was Shirley!! Had My Best Garden Ever That Year. I Think It Was 2011.
Respectfully,
